AROUND THE COUNTY

The Fall Foliage Tour Takes Over Medina County This Weekend 🍂

The Medina County Fall Foliage Tour returns Saturday and Sunday from noon–5 PM, and this year's route focuses on Guilford, Montville, Sharon and Wadsworth townships. The drive-it-yourself tradition dates back to 1968 and is designed around farms, local history and agriculture.

This year's six hosted stops are Geig's Orchard, Our Pleasure Stables, Rupp-Dale Farm, Wadsworth Area Historical Society, Seville Historical Society, and the Seville Library. Additional points of interest include Hubbard Valley Park, Rohrer Farm, Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery and Mound Hill Cemetery.

THE SCOOP: You don’t need to tackle the entire route. Pick 3–4 stops, take the back roads and make an afternoon of it. Geig’s Orchard and Rupp-Dale Farm are two stops I’d have near the top of the list…but I like apples and baby cows! Learn More About The Tour

EAT & DRINK

Mapleside's New Social House Is Officially Open 🍷

The Social House at Mapleside Farms is now open, serving craft wine, beer and cider along with food made for sharing. Unlike Pumpkin Village and the farm's seasonal attractions, The Social House is a year-round concept. Current hours are Tuesday–Friday 4–10 PM, Saturday 11 AM–10 PM and Sunday 11 AM–6 PM. Learn more.

THE SCOOP: If you're already headed to Mapleside for fall festivities, this is an easy excuse to check out the new space. But the bigger story is what happens after fall: Brunswick now has a new year-round food-and-drink destination.

Has anyone checked it out yet? Sounds like a date night is in order for me and the Mrs! Can I call her Mrs Scoop? I think I will.

NEW AROUND HERE

👀 Medina's New Hotel Is Almost Here - And It's Bringing 3 New Places to Eat & Drink

The long-awaited Legacy Hotel is getting close to opening just south of Medina's Public Square at 257 S. Court Street.

The five-story boutique hotel will be part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio and include 77 guest rooms, an event center, courtyard and fitness center. But locals may be even more interested in what's coming with it: three new food-and-drink concepts.

🥩 Privato - an upscale steakhouse with Italian influences, chops and seafood.

🍸 Lilly Jean's - a street-level coffee and cocktail lounge.

🌇 La Vista - a fifth-floor rooftop restaurant and bar featuring coastal Italian food, a raw bar, and panoramic views.

🚗 WORTH THE DRIVE

Yes, There’s an Entire Festival for Oatmeal 🥣

Apparently Akron looked at fall festival season and decided what Northeast Ohio really needed was... more oatmeal.

Why oatmeal? Akron businessman Ferdinand Schumacher began milling oats in the city in the 1850s and became known as the “Oatmeal King.” His business eventually became part of what we know today as Quaker Oats. The festival leans into that quirky piece of Akron history.

The 2nd Annual Akron Oatmeal Festival takes over Cascade Locks Park this Saturday with live music, food and art vendors, Goats & Oats, a Parade of Schumachers, stilt walkers, crafts, face painting, historic oatmeal artifacts and, naturally, a Ferdinand Schumacher look-alike contest.

📍 WHERE: Cascade Locks Park & Mustill Store Museum, Akron
🗓️ WHEN: Saturday • Noon–5 PM
🚗 DRIVE: About 35–40 minutes from Medina
👨‍👩‍👧 WHO: All ages
🅿️ PARKING: Free
